Rhododendron

Rhododendron
2010

This selection of work is from one summer when I spent 3 weeks at a residency in rural North Georgia. While I was there I took daily walks and drew and photographed the surrounding woods.  I took many photos of a rhododendron forest using a flash during the day.  This created a flattened out space and more of a theatrical sense of light and dark.  After printing a series of the photos I wanted to manipulate the space further by cutting away parts of the image.  This brings the viewer a sense of mystery about the cut away and a chance to fill the absence in their act of looking.
